LIGHT IN SMALL PLACES
I go searching for the light places; the small corners in creation that are transformed, unexpectedly, by piercing rays. As I walk through the land, what is ordinary becomes extraordinary.
Zooming in, bending low, squinting, quotidian occurrences — small moments — are transformed into abstracted masterpieces of glimmering beauty. What is the shape of the sun as I look up into the branches of a young blue gum? What are those colours, bouncing off the stagnant damn by the road — when I look closely are now they beautiful too? Forms, colours, lines, and compositions that I could never conceive within myself flood my eyes. Imagination, delight, bloom. |
In these ten paintings, brushstrokes, layers of paint, and textured lines become playful experiments of observation and imagination. Each piece is a unique viewpoint, a window displaying the diversity of the sun's rays as they shine into small corners of the landscape.
Looking for Light in small places, in a world shrouded in darkness, opens the windows into a vast world of beauty otherwise missed.
