In this body of work, landscapes flicker between imagination and reality as I respond to the wildness and winsomeness of nature. Zooming-in close to vast landscapes and exaggerating organic forms, colors, and textures, yields energetic and delightful nuances that shifts the world in and out of familiarity. Layers of paint create a physical representation of the passing and pausing of time. There is grit and body to the colors and brushstrokes that allow the paint to take on movement and vitality. appreciate, and live in the messiness of life; curiosity of this tension between impression and illustration gives way to playful gestures and free exploration of the corners of creation around me. These devotional moments of deep external observation and deep inward imagination, have taught me to view the mundane as extraordinary. Suddenly the shape of a fallen leaf or the line of a twisted branch become symbols and reminders of my delight in the divine. Postures of attention and wonder become contemplative habits that point my gaze outward and upward.
